A gripping story of the realities of life for children in war-torn countries. It is also a story of forgiveness and moving forward in a time of personal loss and great difficulty. The ending is dramatic and compelling. Well worth reading and fitting for teens and up.

I chose this number of stars because this book taught me that not everyone is as lucky as me and that you should do all you can to help out others even if they’re supposed to be enemies. I liked that this book had a plot twist when Nya asked the man his name. I would recommend this book to all ages that can understand what is happening in the world.

Such a wonderfully written novel that brings an important worldview to the reader. I bought an entire class set and we read it as a novel in my grade 7/8 classroom. There is so much that you can do with this piece of literature.

great story and gives a historical information of the "lost boys of Africa" the way the story weaves back and forth between 1988 ? 1985 ? and the more recent past with drought in Eastern Africa

The author did a wonderful job of giving voice to the struggles of the Sudanese people. The parallel storylines work well to tell the story.

A well crafted story based on true events. A quick read, immersing the reader in the struggles of Africa (the water crisis and the refugee situation). I highly recommend this book.
